Endocrinologist
Dr. Myriam Allende is a Puerto Rican physician who has lectured and researched in the fields of Diabetes Mellitus, Adipose Tissue, Arterial Hypertension, Lipid Disorders, and Osteoporosis.
She is a recognized speaker and presenter on the local, national and international levels. Her work with patients has proven to be her most fulfilling endeavor in her career and drives her ethical behavior.
She has chaired multiple educational activities and has been involved in academics as Professor of Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR). In the educational arena, she was able to directly impact the lives of young physicians where she leads by example.
Dr. Allende graduated from the UPR School of Medicine, trained as an Internist and Endocrinologist in Puerto Rico. She also obtained an MBA and a CDE to further enhance her skillset. She has been an involved and active member in good standing with the American
Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), where she has served as chair of the International Committee and a member of the AACE Board of Directors. She is past president of the Puerto Rican Society of Endocrinology and Diabetology (SPED) and president of the AACE Puerto Rico chapter, where she has organized several clinical updates between with SPED and AACE on the island. She is the governor for the Puerto Rico chapter of the American College of Physicians. She belongs to several professional societies such as Alpha Omega Alpha, American Diabetes Association (ADA), the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), and the Endocrine Society. She is Fellow of the American College of Physicians and College of Endocrinology.
Dr. Allende was the Director of the Endocrine Section in the Department of Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. She has devoted her career to compassionately improving the lives of her patients by exercising integrity, building trust, and remaining abreast of the latest developments and best practices in medicine.
